I have to admit I take care of my skin, but my b0dy, well that's a different story. I have started exercising again, and at the age of darn near 48--everything hurts! My back feels like the vertebrae have been crushed and that's just from letting it all go, and not working out like I used to. That, coupled with an autoimmune disorder, causes arthritic like pain (who knows, it may just be arthritis) but perhaps with a few more weeks of exercising it will decrease? I am fighting aging every step of the way too----Clairol included! (you didn't think that was really my natural color did you? )

Hello Everyone,
How has your weekend been going so far? It's so nice and cool outside, and somewhat warmer during the days now.
Thank you so much for inviting me here.
I am going to be turning 50 years old the first week of June,so I am nearly out of my 40s,and that seems so strange right now,now that I think about it.Lol.
My Plan? To fight the aging process, physically anyway, every step of the way,by continuing to drink lots of water, taking long walks around the city, avoiding red meat(it really helps when you're trying to lose weight, and I have.yay),and avoiding stressful situations as long as I can.Which has become so much easier since we don't have any young teens with us anymore. They're finally all grown up.WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!! Lol.
Well, have a great Sunday,Cindy

I will try the soy milk, it looks good in smoothies, and I love fruit so some vanilla soy and a blender might work out well for me!

Acupuncture helps. Taking a double to triple dose od OTC Motrin helps the cdramps. Going to a *woman* gynecologist gets you a lot more respect for what you're going through than wasting your time with one that lacks the relevant body parts himself! What can *he* possibly know?!

The intensity and flow are horrible. The cramps are almost mind boggling. To get a Dr. to just prescribe something for the disabling pain is impossible. I can't even work during this time. The pain results in nausea and hot flashes, and I get very faint.

I've heard so many scary things about hormone replacement that I never even considered.

I got some good help from acupuncture, however. Even while the number of actual periods per year was declining, their intensity in terms of heavy flow, sudden flooding and painful cramps got a whole lot worse. So did PMS crankiness. Acupuncture treatment during the period or the PMS days offered a measure of relief, especially of the flooding and crankies.

They say soy helps. I know that while it was goig on, I'd get a craving for soy milk, buy a jug, and guzzle half of it down as soon as I got home like a drowning person grabbing at a floating log. The craving has completely disappeared since my periods definitively ended. After a time I'd figured out the craving might be connected, and I started drinking it regularly. Soy milk seemed to offer some relief from everything except the chronic overheating.

The trouble with soy milk is that so much of it is sold sweetened, and if you don't want the unnecessarily added calories of the sugar or like the excessive sweet taste, you have to work a little harder to find the unsweetened kind. I consistently found it in Chinatown groceries. Unflavored, unsweetened, just plain soy. Much better tasting!!! (I despise added flavorings, including vanilla.)

Hi Ladies,
I am skeptical about hormone replacement therapy for many reasons. Breast cancer is an issue in my family background-I'm not against it, and to each their own. Some doctors are for it, some are against it, which makes me very undecided.
I also have concerns now about my bones and osteoporosis, and I know that HRT helps with this, but at what cost? I am still very undecided.

hi Polly YEs I totally agree with you! But I believe I'm over the worst part, thru taking the hormone replacement therapy . HAVE a super Monday, Hugs, Kathyh.

Hi,
I'd like to welcome everyone who has joined to the group! I am obviously a woman over 40---and realize that we have special needs, and concerns as we age and approach perimenopause, menopause and go through the aging process. I hope to have articles regarding motherhood after 40 and health issues here, and would love everyone to jump in with articles, or links to articles, tips, and those little hints and support we all need!
